Bookillumination

I was passionate about art from an early age, but after school, I followed my second love - books - and studied book studies, German studies and art history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Magister 2012, PhD 2017).

In 2013 I started working as an illuminator for the Gutenberg Shop in Mainz, and I learned firsthand that this art has a way of teaching patience to even those who resist it most. Check out my work here:

Since 2024, I’ve also been sharing my knowledge through online courses that cover a wide range of topics in book illumination. For me, book illumination is more than just a skill; it’s a practice in mindfulness. Through my courses, I hope to keep this remarkable art form visible and alive, and to pass it on to those who are drawn to it.
