About me
Hi, I'm Julia!
I was passionate about art from an early age, especially painting portraits and animals. After school, I studied book studies, German studies and art history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Magister 2012, PhD 2017).
During my studies, I focused on Johannes Gutenberg and the invention of book printing, in particular the fascinating transition from manuscripts to mass-produced books, in which each copy became unique thanks to hand-painted details.
In 2013, I began illuminating reproductions of individual pages from the Gutenberg Bible, combining my love of art with my academic background. Since then, I have been working as a freelance artist and have specialized in illumination.

Online Courses
Registrations for my online courses are currently closed. In my course “The Art of Medieval Initial” I will give you an introduction to book illumination and show you how to gild and in “Medieval Wildlife” we will draw and paint medieval animals together.
